Club Call Signs

RARS “owns” three amateur radio club call signs—W4DW, W4RNC, N4RAL. We use the call signs for the club's repeaters, for our club stations during the NC QSO Party and ARRL Field Day, and for temporary stations set up by the RARS Portable Operating Group. Each call sign has its own trustee, and Tom Lewis N4TL is the Trustee Coordinator.

Full Members1 (and only Full Members) of RARS who are current on their dues may request the temporary use of a club call sign for an event that has community significance by messaging the Trustee Coordinator. The Trustee Coordinator may approve, reject, or condition the request in his or her discrection.

If the request is approved, the requesting RARS member shall be deemed to be the “control operator” in connection with the requested use of the call sign. The requesting member shall be responsible for ensuring that the station using a club call sign is operated in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations, including that it is operated only in accordance with privileges of the license held by the requesting club member, and in accordance with any conditions and limitations specified by the Trustee Coordinator.

1. A “Full Member” of RARS is a member who is a duly licensed amateur radio operator. Full Members include licensed Family Members, Life Members, and Honorary Members. Full Members do not include Associate Members.
