Emergencies

Emergency communications is one of the fundamental purposes of amateur radio. Hams are in a unique position to help when the communications infrastructure (cell towers, landlines, the Internet) are unavailable due to natural or man-made disasters. An amateur radio operator with a transceiver, a battery, and some wire for an antenna can communicate with others thousands of miles away, to provide situation reports, request supplies, and help friends and relatives connect with their loved ones.

Local Club Activities

RARS is always looking for way to support our members and the public in the event of an emergency.
Our first line of support is through our repeaters so we can communicate across the local area. We test our flagship repeater with a net occuring every night at 8PM local time. Check out our repeaters page for more info

We are also investigating andtesting non-ham radio technologies. One example is the new Meshcore LoRa system. Several members of RARS and other clubs are actively attempting to cover the entire region with off-the-grid texting support using Meshcore. Learn more at the bottom link on the left.
