Ralph KF4NIR and Bill KG4CXY met with Marathon planners starting in the summer.  At this final meeting before the big event, they were joined by Dick KD4ISC, Matt W2BYV and Gary KN4AQ, and the rest of the Marathon leadership team.

Course Map (small size)
The course was divided into 8 sectors, each with a Sector Captain and an Aid Station or two.  Runners made two laps around most of the course to cover the 26+ miles of a standard Marathon.

The starting line was at the State Capitol.  The runners looped downtown, then headed out into the neighborhoods, as far south as Tryon Road.

Some of the hams met the day before the marathon for a "dry run" with their Sector captains.  They got to know the streets, and test communications on the two repeaters we used.

Aid Stations and logistics were handled on the NC4SU 146.775 repeater. SAG wagons used the KD4MYE 147.015 machine.

The hams got instructions from Ralph KF4NIR, and also from the Race Director, Butch Robertson (in green) and Assistant Director Kelly Andrews (in red... Kelly is also KD4EWG).

Hang the RARS banner
Marathon headquarters was the Civic Center in downtown Raleigh.  We got a prominent spot for Net Control and a public information area.  Here, Dick KD4ISC, Bobbie KD4ZVW, Jeff AC4ZO and Mike KC4WUH hang the RARS banner on the Net Control table.

Here's Bill KG4CXY, with the new magnetic signs he had made to promote RARS at public service events.

We're becoming a brand name.

We work for T-shirts!  No, it's not compensation... the staff needs to be identified.  Greg KG4AWG, Byron K4NGJ and Bob K1RCB sort sizes.  If you look carefully on Bill's sleeve above, you'll see that they printed the RARS logo on the sleeve.  Thanks!
