Meeting 7:00 p.m.
Auction follows meeting.

It's that time of year again. Time for the annual RARS club auction. No, we're not auctioning off the club, but lots of people will be selling some neat, interesting, and useful radio equipment. Come join us on Tuesday, November 3, 7:30 pm at Forest Hills Baptist Church. Need directions? No problem! We have a map. Here are the details of the auction and the rules and regulations as set forth by RARS.

Registration opens at 6:00 p.m.
General meeting at 7:00 p.m.
Auction at 7:30 p.m. (or after the meeting finishes)

BRING YOUR FRIENDS!  -- This auction is open to anyone, not just RARS members, both to buy and to sell!

This year's auctioneer and coordinator is, once again,  Jack, W0UCE.
Jack has a message for you, click on the gavel!

Buyers

All bidding is by "bidder number," so you'll need to check in and get a number before the auction. We'll try to get a short "business" meeting started by 7, and have the auction underway by 7:30.

You can check out any time you need to leave. You can pay for items in cash, or by check made out to RARS.

Check out the stuff on the tables BEFORE the auction begins. If you have questions, find the seller and ask before the auction. There will not be time during the auction to get details on each item.

Sellers

Please check the RULES, below. Plan on arriving at before 6:30 to get your stuff checked in. We'll try to have the doors open by 6:00.

Please keep items Amateur Radio oriented. Obviously, radios, antennas, accessories and parts are fine. Personal computer items are OK, but software should be ham-specific (no word processing or graphics programs, for example).

Big-ticket items ($200 or more) don't sell well, unless they're a super bargain and in obviously good shape. This is just a tip - bring what you like. Smaller items, parts and accessories sell better.

Each item to be sold will receive an item number. If you have a box of 10 batteries, but want them sold individually, they EACH need a number, so the paperwork jockeys can keep track of them. Items tagged to be sold together cannot be "broken up" and sold separately.

For those who must leave early - we will try to sell items from the LEFT side of the tables first, so place items there (left as viewed by the audience). If this is abused (as I expect it will be) and the left side of the table collapses from the weight, we'll just junk that system and proceed.

DONATIONS and 501-c-3 status:

Yes, you may make CASH donations to RARS at the auction. Because we're still learning what we can and can't do, and how exactly to do it,  and what the tax implications are, we are only accepting cash donations FOR THIS EVENT.  We haven't established a procedure for accepting other forms of donations quite yet, but it's coming.

So for this auction, if you have hardware that you would like to donate to the club, we ask that you put it up for auction and then donate the cash to the club.  We know how to handle that already! Let us know in advance that the proceeds will be donated to RARS so that we can announce that fact when the item is auctioned.

Finally, if your item does not sell, YOU must remove it from the church. Please DO NOT LEAVE IT for someone to "take for free." That usually means that the club officers left at the end of the meeting have to cart it out.

Here are the RULES for the Auction:

ANNUAL RARS AUCTION NOVEMBER 2nd, 1999
1999 RARS AUCTION RULES

  1. No commission is retained by RARS.
  2. If the proceeds from an auctioned item are to be donated to RARS, tell us when you register the item so we can tell everyone at the time it is auctioned off. (Remember, see next rule. We cannot accept hardware at this event.)
  3. Any item brought to the auction that does not sell must be removed by you prior to your departure. Only radio and/or computer related items may be entered in the auction.
  4. Should you have an opportunity to sell the item prior to the start of the auction, do so, but once it is listed it may not be sold outside of the auction until the auction closes.
  5. Buyer's will be required to pay for their purchases upon departure.
  6. All seller's will be paid by RARS check in a timely manner.
  7. For those who desire one; a transaction record sheet is available so that you may keep a record of your sales/purchases.
  8. List each item that is to be auctioned by itself or as a group i.e. transceiver and power supply together. Each item is tagged and the same item number is placed on all pieces. State condition (1-10) and any minimum price you desire.
  9. If you have a large quantity of items that are not to be auctioned as a lot then each item must have your seller number and an item number.
  10. There is to be no "plucking" of items from a box intended to be sold by the lot. Buy the box or wait until after the auction if it does not sell.
  11. Have a good time, enjoy the evening and help make the auction one of the best ones yet.
