BAYLEAF
The RARS "Bayleaf" site, near Six Forks Rd. and Strickland Rd., houses the 444.525 and 224.64 repeaters.  The pictures below show the 250' freestanding Alltel tower, with our antennas at the top.

This is our own little building,
nestled at the base of the tower.
The 444.525 and 224.64 repeaters, with their RC-1000 controllers.  Stay tuned for progress on new radios and controllers.
You can see the North Wake Expressway, under construction just behind the tower.  This picture was taken in late 1999.  This piece of road, between Creedmore Rd. and Six-Forks Rd., opened in early 2001.

In 1994, this was just a rumor as we sat happily on the old tower.

Then the rumor came true.

The old tower sat just a few feet to the left of our little building.  But one if its guy-wire anchor points sat right in the roadbed, about in the middle of this picture.

We removed the repeater equipment the night after the 1998 RARSfest (April 5th), and the tower was torn down a few weeks later.  The 146.64 machine moved to the NC tower across from the Fairgrounds, and came back on the air in May, 1999.  These machines finally returned to the air on October 28, '99.  The 444.525 controller took a lightning hit in early 2000, and it's taken a while getting it back on the air.

It took a lot of negotiating to find homes for these repeaters.  Thanks go to Bernard W4BRB, who did the negotiating - it was a lot of work behind the scenes.  And thanks also to Alltel, a company that "supports" many Amateur Radio repeaters on their towers across the US.
