SPRINGFEST 2013

May 25, 2013 - Saturday - Hillsborough, NC

This bike ride benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of the Greater Carolinas for a World free of MS and the National Foundation of Transplants.
The ride is 30, 42 or 55 miles over hilly terrain in Orange County. Maple View Farms ice cream served after the ride.
Ham volunteers are needed for SAGs, rest stop communication, net control and course monitoring.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS NORTH CAROLINA 2013

May 31 & June 1, 2013 - Friday & Saturday - Various Venues in Wake County

Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC) offers sports training and competition opportunities in 19 Olympic-type sports to over 38,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Athletes train for a minimum of eight weeks with an average 1-2 practices per week. Most sports require athletes to compete in an area qualifier event if they are interested in moving on to state-level competition. Sports competition is available for eligible athletes 8 years old and older, and there is no age limit.

Ham volunteers provide communication to tie together a network of 7 venues plus logistics and headquarters personnel. We will need 7-8 hams for Friday and 10-15 hams for Saturday.

2013 MSfits ICE CREAM RIDE

June 15, 2013 - Saturday - Morrisville, NC
The 14th annual MSfits Ice Cream Ride benefits the National MS Society. Event features two routes, a Metric Century (60 miles) and a 30 mile course. Ham volunteers are needed to provide communication and SAG support along the routes and rest stops.ICE CREAM for everyone.

2013 FIRECRACKER 50/100K

July 4,2013 - Thursday - Cary, NC
Join us for the 21st Anniversary of the Firecracker ride as 900+ cyclists get together to celebrate the 4th of July with a scenic ride through Wake County.
As in previous years, the ride will start from Saltbox Village in Cary. Rest stops with food and refreshments will be provided on both routes. Hibernian Restaurant and Pub will again host a post-ride party. We need ham volunteers for SAGs, shadows, rest stop monitoring and course safety.

This is the second annual ride for this organization that supports LIVESTRONG in the fight against cancer. This ride will have 3 routes 30, 60 and 100 miles along roads north of the Triangle. Ham volunteers are needed for SAGs, rest stop, net control and general course safety.

July 27, 2013 - Saturday - Cary, NC
This is a 30, 50 or 67 mile cycling event that benefits the National MS Society. Ham volunteers are needed for the usual communications functions associated with these events, SAGs, rest stop monitoring, shadowing, course safety. Which is better - Maple View Farm ice cream or Goodberry's Frozen Custard? Volunteer to help and then decide.

* A 1/2-5/8 wave well grounded dual band mobile antenna

EXTRAS THAT ARE HELPFUL
* Dual Band (144/440) hand held transceiver
* Extra set of charged batteries
* Ear phones & speaker mic or boom mic/headphone set
* Higher gain antenna than the supplied rubber duck. For example Comet BN-24 or SMA-24 or Diamond RHF40 or SRH77CA. There are also many other hi-gain HT antennas available.
