The Raleigh Amateur Radio Society coordinated communication for the first Raleigh Marathon.  35 ham radio operators shadowed key event leaders, drove SAG wagons, staffed aid stations, followed Sector Captains and ran Net Control on two repeaters.  Originally scheduled for December 3, the forecast of a freak early-December storm forced a one-week delay, to December 10, 2000
Ralph Embry KF4NIR ran the communications show, with the assistance of RARS Public Service Director Bill Cole KG4CXR.

More than 1000 runners completed the Marathon.  And although it had it's share of glitches, in the end it was a great success.  Here's the story in pictures:
